Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at all of the last five grands prix.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the points lead from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing 36 points Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he rotated at Turn Four during the early running.
The Japanese spun out over the track edges before spinning across the gravel trap, and was blessed to escape with just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending corner before the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's car in third, over half a second off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
